What is the "lower internet"?

The lower internet refers to personal websites that aren't hosted by megacorps and big tech.

"Lower"? That sounds bad.

It's referred to as the lower internet because these websites aren't being pushed by algorithms and money. It has nothing to do with the quality of these sites, and in many cases, they are actually higher quality than your average social media :)
